Itineraries to explore between the Gulfs of Circeo and Gaeta

The territory of the Riviera di Ulisse and its surroundingsis rich in landscape, sporting and cultural ideas to organise many different excursionsand transform your holiday in Sperlonga – as a guest of Elaia Garden Hotel – in an authentic experience.

Excursions

Circeo National Park

Very interesting thanks to the promontory of Mount Circeo, one of the most evocative areas, the park is linked by mythology to the island of Circe.
It is a popular destination for trekking enthusiasts (at the Circe peak) and sea caves (Grotta Azzurra, Grotta delle Capre, Grotta del Fossellone and Grotta dell’Impiso).

Pontine Islands

In front of the coasts of the promontory of Monte Circeo, you can admire this archipelago of islands, easily reached from the port of Terracina, and Formia.
Ponzais the most famous, also thanks to cinema and television, but all the islands are very beautiful, the ideal destinations for excursions (Palmarola, Zannone, Gavi, Ventotene and Santo Stefano are worthy of note, among others).

Sermoneta, Itri and Fondi

This is an itinerary for history buffs. In fact, both in Itri and in Fondiwe can admire important medieval castles and a short distance from the latter the Monastery of San Magno, another very interesting destination for visits.
Without having to move around much, here is Sermoneta, with the majestic Caetani Castle and in its vicinity the Garden of Ninfa, an imposing natural monument open to the public.

Gaeta and the beach of 300 steps

Close to Sperlonga, the beauty and sea of Gaetais fascinating. Especially famous is the “Beach of 300 steps”, so-called as that is how many steps leads there.
However, your efforts are rewarded by clean, transparent water and fine sand. In the southernmost part there is an area dedicated to naturism, in a gay-friendly stretch of beach.
Equally famous, in Gaeta, are the “Montagna Spaccata” and the “Grotta del Turco”, among the most evocative places that attract many tourists every year. Among the natural beauty and the crevices of the promontory you can still breathe the magic of ancient beliefs, linked to the times when the Saracens probably took shelter here in order to launch attacks on ships in transit.

Formia

Famous for Cicero’s tomb, Formia is also attractive thanks to its historic centre and the towersand offers the opportunity to visit the nearby Hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo.
